Mal Blondeau is a Métis artist, born and raised in Treaty 6 territory, Hinton, Alberta. Mal's Métis ancestors are descendants of the Red River Settlement and Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation. In recent generations, her Métis family has resided in areas around North Battleford and Southern Saskatchewan. Other surnames within her Métis lineage include Sayers, Boyer and Wells. Mal also has Dutch and English ancestry on her mothers side.
Mal is a self-taught visual artist. Much of her art work and designs are inspired by Indigenous floral beadwork and cultural teachings. Through her art, Mal explores the interconnectivity of all nature and beings, along with Indigenous, social and environmental issues. She aspires to create contemporary art that provokes connection, community and change.
Mal creates with gratitude on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen speaking peoples in Victoria, British Columbia.
