Pronouns: He/Him
MAURICE E. SÉGUIN is a self-taught artist originally from “Mattawa, Ontario”. Being of French and Anishinaabeg descendance, he is grateful to be able to create work on unceded, occupied Anishinaabeg territory. Maurice has been painting since childhood; “I can remember having fun with colours, and how much of a challenge it was to create and capture the play between the light and the shadows. My techniques have evolved over the years, but the subject has been pretty consistent.”
He continues to create pieces that draw inspiration from his love for the Land and community; trees, animals, nibi (water). These pieces always carry a story while leaving space for the viewer's interpretation. Most importantly, he creates works influenced by his passions - culture, family, and language - to inspire action. “My goal has never changed, to inspire people to want to experience the Land and engage in conserving and preserving efforts - for future generations.”
He currently resides in “Ottawa, Ontario” with his spouse Dawn. He is happy to receive inquiries, and can be reached at artworkbymauriceseguin@gmail.com.
