Melissa Lowe
Ojibway, Whitefish Bay First Nation
Boozshoo, my name is Melissa Lowe. I am from Whitefish Bay First Nation AKA Naotkamegwanning First Nation. I am a Ojibway lady with two children and six grandchildren. I was raised by my kokum (grandma), until she passed away then moved with my dad to Winnipeg until he could no longer care for us. My two siblings and I ended up in foster care then adopted by the Lowe family, who are incredible parents.

We all returned home to our reservation in our teens and we’re still in contact with both biological and adoptive families. I mention my kokum because she is my inspiration, she showed me how to bead and sew, we were a great team. I currently live in Whitefish Bay, Ontario, Lake of the Woods. I do my sewing and beading right here at home and love doing my own thing. My favourite project by far was when I created 3 red jingle dresses in honour of the Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women. Meegwetch for your time.
