Gananoque Highschool’s Indigenous Leadership Program

The Indigenous Arts Collective had a great time working with Gananoque Highschool’s Indigenous Leadership program along with Two Sister’s SUP. The day was filled with learning about our natural, inherited surroundings and local bodies of Water, such as the Gananoque River. Using our Water Ranger’s test kits, the students were able to take Water samples, check Water and air temperature, do conductivity tests, check the Water’s chlorine, pH, Alkalinity, and dissolved oxygen levels, make observations, and remove litter from the Water, followed by paddle board safety and an on the Water paddle.

Grassroots Indigenous Youth Initiatives

Partnered with Two Sister’s SUP, the Indigenous Arts Collective had an amazing time taking youth and community members from the Grassroots Indigenous Youth Initiatives program in Kingston out on the Water! The kids and their families were able to come together and learn about our local Waters, and spend time reflecting on the Water’s health, Her needs, and our responsibility to the Natural, inherited world around us. Two Sister’s SUP then took this group out on the Water at Lower Brewers Mills Locks on the Rideau Canal in Kingston. It was a beautiful day, and the youth had a great time spotting wildlife, and gaining confidence on the paddle boards.

Kingston Water Warriors

The Indigenous Arts Collective led another successful Water testing on Lake Ontario at the Pumphouse Museum in Kingston. We were joined by the Kingston Water Warriors program and local families wanting to educate themselves about their local Waters. Using our Water Ranger’s test kits, the group learned how to take Water samples, check Water and air temperature, do conductivity tests, check the Water’s chlorine, pH, Alkalinity, and dissolved oxygen levels, and make observations about the local wildlife.
