Jessica Sargent
Mohawks of Akwesasne
Jessica Sargent is equal parts geek, mad scientist, and whimsical bookworm. She is a mother to one fierce daughter and a Snipe clan member of the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation. By day she is helping to preserve and revitalize the Mohawk language, writing and managing grants for the Friends of the Akwesasne Freedom School. By night, or rather on the weekends, she is safety-geared up and ready to work with volatile chemicals and fire in the name of art and beauty. Under the guise of Alchemist.29, Jessica creates hand-crafted pieces of wearable art that incorporate her Kanienkehaka (Mohawk) heritage as well as her goblin tendencies towards pretty rocks. With her main focus on copper electroforming, her one-of-a-kind pieces have traveled the world with buyers as far as New Zealand and as close as just down the road. Recently, Jessica has begun delving into metalsmithing in both copper and silver and researching ancestral metalwork in the hopes of revitalizing pieces of the past.
