IAC unites the collective to stand against AI and data centres.
IAC Policy on AI Usage on All Platforms
Data centers target Indigenous territories, low-income neighbourhoods and communities of color. The pattern is linked to historic redlining, lower land costs and weaker zoning regulations. As a result, our communities are facing a disproportionate burden of environmental hazards,
including increased air pollution from diesel generators, excessive water usage, and higher utility bills.
AI threatens artists. Indigenous peoples celebrate a lifelong connection to creation. AI raises major concerns regarding copyright, use of intellectual property and devastating devaluation of human creative skill. Art is the ultimate act of resilience; art holds our history and legacy.
The IAC speaks loudly and rejects the data centre builds. We protest for the health of our people, for the health of ohnékanos, life-giving waters and our relatives that live in and around her.
IAC artists are forbidden to use AI in their making and marketing of art on all of our platforms (IndigenARTSY, FB Indigenous Arts Marketplace, Indigenous Arts Collective Membership Pages).
This position is grounded in ensuring equality across our membership and adheres to our mandate to protect endangered Indigenous art forms, the makers and all our relatives.
We would not be a collective if we worked against each other. When one of our cousins is threatened, we will align and protect each other to the best of our ability.
