Amber Rattlesnake
Métis, British Columbia
For as long as I can remember, my family has loved to create. Being a daughter of a Métis father and Black Sea German mother, I am a blend of two worlds; the prairies and seas woven together.
I grew up with two talented seamstresses; the matriarchs of my family passed down old knowledge of craftsmanship and design from generation to generation. As a mother of two girls, I have encouraged them to nourish the creativity inside them and I have shared my knowledge, melding the craft of all my grandmothers. My daughters have turned out to be just as artsy and crafty as the generations before them. Like myself they are a blend of cultures and proudly belong to the Ermineskin Cree Nation. My website will sometimes share their creations as well.
I have a Diploma in Fashion Design and I am a registered citizen of the Métis Nation of British Columbia. I was gifted the name notokew wap takwanaw by an elder from the Ermineskin Cree Nation. I live and work in East Vancouver on the traditional, ancestral and unceded Indigenous lands.
I love taking elements of the past and bringing them into the present. My designs pull elements of my ancestors' cultures into pieces as eclectic and unique as we all are.
