Inuvialuit-Cree, Alberta

I am an Inuvialuit-Cree woman, born and raised in Treaty 6 territory. In my childhood, I had very little connection to my Indigenous roots. Fortunately, in my teens, I reconnected with my cultural roots by experiencing healing in ceremonies and finding family in the community. In 2016, I met Goota Desmarais from Inuit Connections through my mom's mentor. I connected immediately with Goota because I loved learning from her teachings. After several years of volunteering for Goota, a well-known teacher of Inuit culture, I began working alongside her at various events to offer the community teachings from the Arctic.

I've admired beadwork for a long time and eventually saw on social media how people can connect to the culture through beadwork. Recently, I decided to teach myself how to bead by following different Cree beading creators online. I'm proud to learn the proper Indigenous techniques in beading and I'm excited to share my work.
