Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation
My name is Chloe Fitzsimons, I am a member of the Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation. My biological family such as my aunts, uncles, and mother were all scooped. Some of my aunts and uncle went to residential school and my mother was placed in foster care.
My sewing journey began when I applied to a Fashion elective course in high school. Making ribbon skirts allows me to honour my late mother, my biological family, Residential School Survivors, and my true self. In the future, I hope to provide a ribbon skirt making and teachings workshop with the support of my community. Recently, I started an apparel line called 'Obnoxiously Indigenous' - I wanted to showcase the funny, lighter side of Indigenous heritage by breaking down barriers through humour.
