My name is Katsiró:te. I am Mohawk Nation. I am Turtle clan. I am from Six Nations. As a small child I enjoyed drawing. Art was always my favourite subject in school. As I got older, I started reconnecting to my Indigenous roots and creating artwork that was language inspired or culturally influenced. I enjoy doing pieces that have some tie to my roots. I didn’t grow up on Six Nations but I spent my summers there with my Tóta Ruby Montour. She was a land defender on Six Nations. She has taught me to be proud of our heritage and to fight to protect what we have. I hope to be remembered by my family like my Tóta for igniting the fire for learning our language and culture.
