Jeanine Bruinsma
Driftpile Cree First Nation, Ontario
Jeanine is a Cree artist and registered member of Driftpile Cree Nation in Treaty 8 Territory, with family roots in northern Alberta. She creates under the name Cree:born, designing handcrafted pieces that reflect a deep respect for Indigenous traditions, natural materials, and contemporary craftsmanship.
Working with moosehide, antler, rabbit fur, sweetgrass, dentalium shells, gemstones, feathers, wool, and other natural materials, Jeanine creates wearable art inspired by culture, community, and the beauty of the natural world.
Largely self-taught, Jeanine continues to learn through dedicated practice, research, and the generosity of Indigenous community members and artists who have shared their knowledge and encouragement. She believes learning is a lifelong journey and is continually exploring new techniques and materials while creating with respect, authenticity, and cultural integrity.
Through Cree:born, Jeanine hopes each piece tells a story of resilience, connection, and the enduring beauty of Indigenous artistry.
