My name is Kathleen Shabanian Azad. I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I lived in a development most of my childhood. At the time of my youth, I wasn't allowed to learn about my Indigenous heritage.

So when I was young, I went to the library to read books and taught myself to bead and knit. Although I didn't learn about my Indigenous heritage, I learn more and more everyday from the people around me including elders. When I bead, it makes me feel happy and closer to my heritage.
