Kelsey Olson
Métis Nation of Alberta
Kelsey Olson is a multidisciplinary artist of Nêhiyaw (Cree), Métis, and Icelandic settler descent. Originally from Flin Flon, Manitoba, she has now created a home and community in Amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton) and Slave Lake, Alberta. Kelsey takes inspiration from the Boreal Forest where she grew up and her journey of connecting to her Indigenous heritage through learning nehiyawewin (Cree language) and traditional arts. Along with her art practice, Kelsey is passionate about learning traditional medicines and is an avid teacher of beadwork, finger weaving, and tufting.
Kelsey’s beadwork, caribou hair tufting, sewing, and paintings can be found on Instagram @MICHIFMAKERS. Michif Makers is a Métis women’s art collective created by Kelsey with the goal of supporting and empowering Indigenous female artists.
