Abenaki Odanak Band, British Columbia
Hi, I'm Laura D!
I have attended the Native Education in Vancouver, BC, the First Nations Sciences Program at UBC and the Douglas College Nursing Program at Douglas College. It was during my Native Education courses where I learned how to make drums, bead, and make button robes. I have studied under, apprenticed, and taken courses from numerous tattooers since 1991, and have been a professional Indigenous Tattooer and Piercer for the past 15 years.
I opened my first tattoo and piercing studio in Selkirk, Manitoba in 2007, and have operated a studio in Surrey, British Columbia since 2015. I have offered original art since late 2000s and still produce work for sale on my Facebook page, Body Art by Laura D. I am involved in local First Nations community programs in Surrey where I operate my studio, Body Art by Laura D. I also have a small at home jewelry studio where I work in silver, 3D printing and beadwork.
I am currently apprenticing my daughters, one in tattooing and one in piercing and do weekly art projects with them in screen-printing/linocut/emulsion/painting amongst other projects.
