Leia Jody
Little Red River Cree Nation
My name is Leia Jody, I am a Woodland Cree woman born and raised in Northern Alberta. I have 30+ years experience in hand stitching. I have learned other techniques from my mother and an elder woman in home economics in the late 90s and early 2000s. I also took sewing courses in 2011 at "Precision Sewing Academy" in Medicine Hat, AB.

Then went on to attend "Richard Robinson Academy of fashion design" in Ottawa, Ontario for 3 years. In 2015, I won the "Couturier of the Year" award. I am trained in Haute Couture and my passion is in menswear. I make everything from scratch from my own patterns to designs and use high quality materials for my work. I recently started incorporating my Indigenous style into my work, modernizing the ribbon shirts and pants. I am confident in my work to make my customers feel proud to be Indigenous and comfortable at the same time.
Workshops
"I am a certified fashion designer, having graduated from the "Richard Robinson Academy of Fashion Design" in Ottawa, Ontario. With over 30 years of sewing experience, I have fulfilled my childhood ambition of becoming a fashion designer, despite starting as a young girl with big dreams in a small isolated reservation. In recent years, I have been dedicated to learning and preserving traditional arts and crafts to uphold the artistry in my community of Fox Lake, Alberta. Leveraging my expertise, I am now offering my services to teach and share this knowledge with others."
