Living in the North has offered limited opportunities and audiences for learning Metis Specific art and jewelry study in my hometown so I am mostly self-taught. Over the years, I used existing travel opportunities to learn from more established artists, in particular in the jewelry arts. Over the years I have been able to develop a fully implemented artist studio with the tools and inventory I need. When home, I practice and expand on these skills and then bring them to my community as an elder mentor and knowledge keeper/sharer. My current work in my “Copper Beaded Collection” which expresses the theme of the “Flower Beadwork People” in a way that is innovative and fresh.

I plan to expand my study and dissemination of Metis Designs based on the inspiration of traditional plant medicine and cultural imagery that is specific to the Manitoba and Red River homeland. My plan is to make the transition into full time artist and expand on my current innovative and contemporary interpretation of what I learn on this new journey and to bring this influence to the Metis People of Turtle Island by expanding the work I do with silver and copper jewelry.
