Wailacki and Nomalacki, California

I am Wailacki and Nomalacki, and a member of the Round Valley Indian Reservation. I currently reside on the Hoopa Valley Reservation.

I do traditional and modern Native American Beadwork. By traditional I mean regalia, moccasins, dream catchers, feathers, medicine bags and chokers. By modern I mean things like NFL necklaces, walking canes, hats, earrings, barrettes, lighter cases, keychains, lanyards and pretty much anything else that can be beaded.

I have been beading for 39 years, ever since I was thirteen. I fell in love with beading by watching my Elders. I used to watch them bead and they would have such peace about them and everything they made was beautiful. When I started beading I found that peace too, and ever since beading has become my medicine. I don’t charge when I teach beading because I hope that by learning the art of beadwork, they would also find the love and peace that I have found so that they too will pass the art down to others as they grow.
