Shonta Campbell
I started learning art in Behavorial Therapy as a child, under the recommendation of Child and Family Services. In my childhood (7-12 years old) I had attended a music program for inner city and low-income youth called Saint James Music Academy, where I learned over 12 instruments and singing. This was my first job. I furthered my traditional art skills in an art based alternative high school, which was located in Britannia Secondary. The class I attended had over 50% Indigenous students in a low income and inner-city neighborhood. There we were given the opportunity to attend classes and programming through Emily Carr University. I took a West Coast Formline Class while some of my peers took Carving. My grandfather David Martin caught onto my art skills developing as I got older, especially after placing 1st in the Vancouver School Boards Junior Oil Painting competition. He had encouraged me to further pursue my art career, mentoring me in West Coast Formline. David was a refined artist himself, selling his carvings and paintings internationally to Museums, Collections, Etc. David had wanted me to start my own business, which I had done after his passing in honour of our shared memories. In my free time after leaving college in 2021, I taught myself digital art. It had always been an interest of mine but was too expensive in my youth to pursue. My first digital art pieces were done on my Samsung 8 cell phone, and now I work on a 12.9 in iPad Pro Max.
I love being able to pursue opportunities that further develops my art skills. I especially love sharing my art with others.
