Ojibway, Garden River First Nation Ontario

Boozhoo, my name is Donna Georgina. I am an Ojibway grandmother and a member of Garden River First Nation.

I envision, design, and create ribbon skirts, shirts, shawls, and aprons. These garments are designed to promote and showcase what is an important part of our Indigenous culture.

My inspiration comes from the memories of my loving mother who was a Residential School Survivor. Ever since I was a young child, I enjoyed sitting beside Mom at the kitchen table, learning as I watched her stich, sew, and embroider.

The first two ribbon skirts I ever made were gifted to my young Granddaughters. It was important to me that they learned about their heritage by participating in the experience of wearing ribbon skirts at a PowWow. A fun and memorable experience it was.

The beautiful fabrics and ribbons I use to create these designs are smudged to offer positive flowing energy with good intentions for all who wear them.
