My name is Jennifer Taback, I am from Shawanaga First Nation.  I have been a professional designer for over 10 years. Currently, I am exploring the links between traditional art and digital methods of expression, especially beadwork in relation to jewelry and design.

As an Anishnawbe-Kwe here in Sudbury, understanding our cultural visuals and presenting them in new ways is important to me as our digital presence has become increasingly important.

I have previously sold jewelry through in-person markets and pow-wows and aim to start selling online, especially given the current pandemic situation.

I have been making jewelry for the last 5 years and originally learned beading from my sister who did a great deal of self-teaching as our family did not share much traditional knowledge due to the stigma and restrictions of practicing it when they had the opportunity. It has been a process to reclaim that knowledge on our own and online has been an incredibly helpful resource (for both technical details, historical research, and connecting with other artists).

As an artist who has experience creating visuals for commercial clients, I want to expand my understanding of translating hand-created processes and digital presentation of them.
