She:kon sewakwekon,

My name is Kaysun Oke and I am Turtle clan member from Kanesatake. I create beadwork jewelry such as earrings and bracelets, custom wood burnings, and pointillism art. All my work is usually based off animals and plants, as I prefer realism.

Kaysun Oke Indigenous Art

I first learned how to bead from my mother at a young age. Even as a child I loved creating and challenging myself. This passion for creation and challenges followed me into adulthood.

Four years ago, after I had my first child, I decided to try something new; woodburning. It came so naturally. Recreating texture within the wood and creating animals and botanicals, all while being conscious of the amount of pressure I placed. There is no room for mistakes in woodburning. However, I needed something more… Then came pointillism. Pointillism is the art of creating with only dots. It recreates texture so beautifully.

While each of these artforms are very time consuming, they ease my mind and gift me comfort and tranquility.
