Eel Ground First Nation

My name is Lana Thomas and I am a Mi ́kmaw artist and a member of the Natoaganeg (Eel Ground) First Nation in New Brunswick.  Born and raised in Ottawa, I have wanted to find a way to connect and learn and share with my children, so that we have a strong understanding of who we are.  I want to celebrate the ancient symbols and keep them alive for generations.

Over the last few years I have met some amazing clients, and friends through social media, that have that same desire.  I am hearing stories from people that feel disconnected; people that are just now learning about their ancestry, and are wanting to display their pride.  That fuels my passion and desire to create more!  I want to see Mi’kmaq Stars in every home and to be a beacon, a symbol of unity, across Mi’kma’ki.

I operate a high-end wooden art boutique located near Ottawa, Ontario. Every handcrafted piece of art that I create represents thousands of years of a time-honoured tradition.

My work reflects my Mi’kmaq ancestral roots and my art tells the story of my people. My company produces an exclusive line of eight-point wooden stars, in addition, I also offer client customization for those wanting to make a bold artistic statement.
