Lindsay Woods

Anishnaabe, of Couchiching First Nation Manitoba

I am an Anishnaabe woman with mixed settler and Indigenous background. I grew up disconnected to my cultural background but fortunately I have been able to make these cultural connections as an adult. I have attended Ceremony, created wonderful connections with my Ceremonial families, and began my Sundance path in 2022.

I first learned to bead while working at Fort William Historic Park in Thunder Bay Ontario. I worked there as an interpreter in the Indigenous encampment. We had the wonderful opportunity to learn from our Elders and sit with them for hours learning beading, birch bark work, leather work, and cooking traditional foods. I picked up beading again a few years ago and I have enjoyed learning this craft and spending time with my daughters around the kitchen table while we all learn together.

Beadwork is my medicine and keeps me healthy, grounded and connected to Creator.
