Little Black Bear

My name is Tracy Desjarlais, I grew up in the Qu’Appelle Valley and I am affiliated with Little Black Bear Band in Saskatchewan. I took up beading when I was a young teenager, around 14 years old or so. I had a few friends who were beaders already at that age and my grandmother also did small beading projects.

Watching people bead and going to local pow-wows got me more interested in picking it up and I have been beading ever since. I am of Cree/Michif ancestry so I think my biggest passion is floral patterns which is what my people are well known for. I love to express myself with bright colors and incorporating different techniques into my projects and I am very proud of who I am and the beautiful place I call home.
