Anishinaabe, Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation, Ontario

Christine Toulouse is an emerging First Nations artist from Sagamok Anishnawbek, Ontario, Canada.

She was taught the traditional craft of quillwork from her Grandmother, Ida, who is a quill box artist herself. Christine works to connect land and season to practice. She absorbs and passes down Indigenous memory and knowledge and invites past into present, allowing for memory to become reality in her work.

Christine is already an award winning artist, having won an honourable mention prize with the Trias Art Award (a partnered award by the Ottawa Art Gallery and the Ottawa Hospital) for an art piece that represented art and healing.

Christine has exhibited her work through various events such as the Indigenous Art Exhibition in Mississauga, and the Woodland Cultural Centre's Indigenous Preservation Museum in Brantford, among others. She has also been featured in various publications, including Refinery 29's Cross-Country Guide to Indigenous Designers.
